Yobe terrorist attack: 34 victims laid to rest as ISWAP claims responsibility for the massacre

The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) has claimed responsibility for the attack that led to the killing of 34 villagers in Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The terrorists attacked Mafa town around 4pm, on Sunday, k!lling many people and setting houses and shops on fire.

In a letter written in Arabic and released by the insurgents, they claimed responsibility for the attack, Daily Trust reported.

It said the village was attacked for allegedly providing information to the military, which led to the killing of its members.

“This is a message from the soldiers of the Caliphate in the West Africa Province to the leaders, mukhtars, and the rest of the residents and farmers in the town of Mafa and the villages around it,” the letter reads.

“You have been tempted to remain in your countries in safety. The soldiers of the Caliphate will not harm you, nor threaten you with your money, nor hinder you from any activity of yours, whether agriculture, trade, etc., until you have arrogantly raised yourselves to a position in which you believe that your hands will reach our brothers with harm and remain uninterrupted

“You have harmed our brothers in the past days in the town of (Bangaro) and its environs, and you cooperated and sympathized with the apostates in killing our brothers, and when we arrived in the area, we did not harm you

“Rather, we limited ourselves to those whose hands were stained with the blood of our brothers, and who were attacked by their weapons, according to the information we found. We thought that by doing so we had warned you with the language of war, hoping that you would be deterred

“However, this increased your arrogance and arrogance, so you repeated the same crime in the month of Safar.”

Meanwhile, the mass burial of the 34 victims was held on Tuesday in Babban Gida, the headquarters of Tarmuwa LGA.

The funeral prayer took place at the palace of Mai Jajere led by the Chief Imam of Yobe Mosque and Islamic center, Ustas Hudu Mohammed Yusuf.

The funeral prayer was attended by Governor Mai Mala Buni, represented by his Deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana who extended heartfelt condolences of the Government and people of Yobe state to the Emir of Jajere and families of the deceased.

During the incident, Governor Buni was at Abuja and is currently attending a meeting with the chief of defense staff to review the security structure of the state.

The Deputy Governor further donated the sum of 30 million Naira to the family of the deceased and injured persons.

Gubana also directed SEMA officials to provide food items and other relief materials to the victims.

He described the actions of insurgents as callous and barbaric, which no right thinking Human being would carry-out. Adding that people should continue to pray for peace in the area and the entire state.
